The Mirrix had not been posted yet, so I suggested going to collect it from the affiliated London shop - The Hand Weavers Studio! David handed me my loom, and showed me a 12" with a tapestry in progress. He also introduced me to the owner, Wendy, who wished me well and offered to link to my blog on their Facebook page.
The first thing I like is that the loom comes already assembled. All you need to add is the warping bar and spring bar, and the shedding device if you are using it (after you warp the loom). There are printed instructions that come with the loom. You can also find PDFs on the Mirrix site with pictures of warping step by step, for each setup - bead weaving with/without the shedding device, and tapestry weaving.
Armed with these two, I warped for my first looming - a bracelet. It was not as difficult as I (for some reason) expected. Once I remembered which way to go round the warp bar and the bottom/top ends, it went quickly. The only issue I had (on my part because I'm spoilt!) was counting the warps. On my other looms, I marked the threaded rod in groups of 10 so I have to do minimal counting. I think I'll find a way to do the same with this.
I usually loom standing up, even with small pieces such as bracelets. The looms I have also need propping up, even when I, standing, so I don't strain myself leaning over etc. This loom has legs!! It is a great thing because it stands on its' own without the need for additional 'equipment' to prop it up. That's a big box ticked for me. I actually tried it sitting. It was ok, but I still prefer to stand. I believe I work faster that way.
Anyway with all that rambling, here is what I managed to loom yesterday. It was a late finish but worth it :)

Half down, half to go
I finished the first side of the photo purse that's currently on the loom. I'm hoping I can start the second side over the weekend, as well as work on that colour portrait!
Otherwise I'm just trying to wait patiently for my mirrix loom to arrive! I changed my mind regarding what I'll working first. I think small is the way to go for the first project. I also have some to prepare myself for my debut on YouTube! I hope my voice doesn't put people off lol.
Have a great day and enjoy your weekend. Hopefully the next time I post will be about that Mirrix :)

It feels like dream
But it's NOT!!!! I was chosen, along with Noreen Crone-Findlay to take part in the
Social Market for Mirrix
I cannot WAIT to get my hands on the loom. The MOTHER of all looms. I have to learn about twitter, sign up to Ravelry and Weavolution. I think I know what will adorn Nandwa (yes I've named the loom!) first. A portrait :)
I'll post as soon as its here. Oh I can't wait!!! Till then, happy Sunday and have a great week

I spy with my little eye!
The beginnings of a hand! Ooh the excitement is now building! :) Yes, it's another photo purse. I bought the majority of the colours at the beginning of the month and started up again as soon as they arrived.
And this is the result. I've got about 28 rows left till the back side is complete. That doesn't sound like much so hopefully, by the end of next week (at the very latest), the back side will be finished.
I'll bid you adieu and goodnight.

The Mirrix
As I was browsing Facebook today, I came across a notice about the recent Social Market for Mirrix on the Beading Daily page. What luck! The deadline is today!! I figured it wouldn't do any harm to give the application a go. So I did. Silly me I first sent the application incomplete. I had trouble and went back to drafts and resent it. Obviously I didn't save it! The excitement must have been too much :) Anyway, I have managed to send the completed application. All I can do now is sit and wait.
In the meantime, I am still working on that colour portrait - unfortunately I can't show anything on this for reasons mentioned previously. I also started on the other photo purse. I got in the colours I need for the back side, so I can work on that as and when I like. I finished off the warps on the purse of the 'hands' (black background). All that remains on that is to join the sides, attach the fringe, and the strap. I'm hoping I can give an update on the purse on the loom soon - there's not much to see as yet!
Tomorrow is a work day so have a good day and week, till I post again!

Such a long time...
Since my last blog post. I was so sure it wasn't that bad! Anyway, as seems the norm, it's been 99% bead looming. I started a colour portrait sometime back, and it's going well. I've just one face to sort out then I can finish it off. It would be ideal if I could finish it in the next two weeks, but realistically don't think I'll manage it.

I can only show you that much, as I need to respect the wishes of the people in the portrait - they don't want their pictures splashed all over the internet.
The second project has been photo bracelets of newborns. This is the second one in the set

I had almost completed the first one, but they ended up wanting it as above so will have to redo it. But this was a good way to try out the technique on photos anyway :)

This (purse) has been on my loom for a long time now. I work on it intermittently, putting it away when I have something more urgent to work on. I pulled it out a few weeks ago, and managed to finish the main part of it, this photo on the front. In case you can't make it out very well, it's a mother holding her newborn babie's hand. It's so sweet, and was perfect for what I wanted to do.

This will go to a very good friend of my brothers'. I hope she really likes it. It's still a way off being finished, but I will get there eventually.
Last but not least, a non-looming project! I had a request for some hair combs. I kept them simple but they went down a treat. I'll definitely have to make myself some more when I get a chance :)

I've taken the plunge
And decided to join the rat race on Etsy! Of course patience is key, and I believe I have enough :) You don't know till you try so m trying. We'll see how it goes.
On another note I did a little work on the colour portrait - more specifically another sample. It's looking ok so far. I may swap out some colours but will leave that decision till I've completed it and seen the faces in their entirety.
Hopefully I can do some more tomorrow afternoon after work. Till then, have a good evening and night :)
